    Flame Retardant Rescue Dummy

Flame Retardant dummy with overall removed

fr undressed

Kermel® is a naturally non-flammable fibre. Non-flammability is a permanent characteristic thanks to Kermel's chemical structure including a high proportion of aromatic structures and combined double bonds.
Kermel is a smooth-surfaced fibre with an almost circular cross-section. This shape, as well as its modulus, makes it comfortable and very pleasant to the touch.
The non-flammable fibre has a very high resistance to abrasion, a thermal conductivity twice as low as any other aramid fibre. It also has an excellent resistance to chemicals.

Kermel® aramid fibre is solution-dyed during the manufacturing process for lifelong colourfastness.  Colours of non-flammable Kermel fibres can withstand UV lights and washing.

As can be seen from the image opposite with the Kermel overalls removed, the Flame Retardant dummy has an outer carcass of a high tech material which utilises glass fibre. All seams double stitched using PTFE glass thread.  The high density polypropylene webbing seen on our other dummies cannot be used on this dummy as it will melt at the temperatures this dummy will endure.

flame retardant

The Flame Retardant dummy is designed for high temperature 'snatch' rescue scenarios with real flames and the chance of a 'flash-over'.  The higher specification, flame retardant dummies demonstrate a good balance between temperature and abrasion resistance.

General construction is similar to the General Purpose  dummy, but instead uses a high tech material which incorporates glass fibre for the outer carcass, the material being stitched using PTFE coated glass thread.

The protective overalls are made using Kermel
®
flame retardant fabric (the material of choice for most fire tunic manufacturers) which provides excellent heat and abrasion resistance.  (For more detail on Kermel see here)

Flame Retardant  training dummies are fitted with genuine heat resistant fire-fighters safety boots, the boots greatly extend the life of the dummy protecting the legs if the dummy is dragged along the ground.

A separate hood, also made in Kermel completely covers the head, being separate makes the fitting of replacement overalls considerably easier.

The dummies will easily withstand temperatures of 200-250 degs C, the average temperature at knee height for 'hot fire' training and only starts to 'fail' at temperatures in excess of 400 degs C and then it will be the fire boots that fail first.  Flash-over temps greater than 1000 degs are withstood by the dummy for short periods.
They are weighted to produce an anatomically correct weight distribution and the 'feel' of an unconscious patient

.fr relaxed

Crucially, these dummies totally eliminate the risk of pinch welts and bruising being inflicted on trainees, a common injury when using plastic bodied dummies which usually have hard limb joints - for example when a hard knee joint folds over the forearm of a trainee.  Our dummies have soft outer layers and have no hard joints - in fact you can forcibly wrap a knee joint around a trainees forearm with no risk of injury.

Available in 2 weights - 30kg and 50kg.

The construction methods of the Flame Retardant dummy are described in the product detail below.

These dummies are designed specifically for high temperature 'snatch' rescues.  Although tough the materials used are less rugged than our other dummies and will not withstand the same level of heavy duty treatment.  For general rescue scenarios involving burying under heavy weight etc do not use this dummy.

The Kermel protective overalls keep the core dummy clean as well as providing an extreme level of protection against high temperature.  The overalls are machine washable.
